Ever Connected a Mobile Wallet to an App? You Might be Eligible for the WalletConnect Token Airdrop

The WalletConnect Foundation recently introduced the WalletConnect Token (WCT), the native currency of the WalletConnect Network. Designed to enhance the onchain ecosystem, WCT comes with various utilities, including staking, governance, rewards, and transaction fees, which are integral to supporting the network’s functionality.

To accompany the launch of the WalletConnect Token, the WalletConnect Foundation is releasing a series of WCT airdrops. These airdrops are intended to provide early users and contributors of the WalletConnect Network with a stake in the future of onchain UX. Registrations for the first season airdrop opened on September 24, and if WalletConnect has been a part of your onchain journey, there’s a possibility you may be eligible!

What is the WalletConnect Network, and what makes you a part of its ecosystem?

Over the past couple of years when interacting with web3, you might have encountered a “Connect via WalletConnect” button while logging into an onchain application. But what does that really mean?

The WalletConnect Network facilitates secure and seamless connections between mobile wallets and apps. This means that when using an onchain app, whether scanning a QR code from a desktop or connecting directly through a mobile device, WalletConnect ensures a trusted link between your wallet address and the application. By offering options like QR code scanning or one-click mobile connections, WalletConnect has been instrumental in helping users access and interact with decentralized apps (dApps).

Essentially, if you have used the WalletConnect log in option to sign in, trade, or interact with an app, you have actively participated in the WalletConnect Network. This involvement could mean eligibility for the WalletConnect Token airdrop.

What is the WCT Airdrop, and why might you be eligible for it?

The purpose of the airdrop is to empower users and contributors who have been instrumental to the growth of the WalletConnect Network to play an active role in its future. It’s a way of acknowledging and inviting the community to participate in the WalletConnect ecosystem and contribute to the governance and direction of onchain UX. Users also have the option to link their GitHub account to register, further recognizing contributions from developers across the ecosystem.

By holding WCT, you can actively engage in the WalletConnect ecosystem, playing a role in shaping the future of onchain UX through governance and network decisions. This airdrop is a direct opportunity for you to benefit from your past contributions and involvement in using WalletConnect, whether as an end user or as a developer who helped grow the ecosystem.

How to ensure you’re correctly registered for the WCT Airdrop

If you've ever connected your wallet to an app using WalletConnect, you could be eligible for the airdrop. Here’s how to find out:

  • Have you used WalletConnect before? Whether you connected a mobile wallet to a desktop app, or used WalletConnect to connect just on a mobile device, you have likely used the WalletConnect Network for this connection and you may be eligible for the airdrop.
  • Have you correctly added a mobile wallet to your Airdrop profile? You can head to airdrop.walletconnect.network to create a profile and register your interest for the airdrop. You can add multiple wallets as well as GitHub accounts to your profile to extend visibility of your usage and contributions across the network, but you’ll need to make sure you add at least one mobile wallet to connect via WalletConnect and correctly register your profile. If you’ve not managed to connect a mobile wallet, you’ll receive a warning on the page to guide you!
  • Using an in-app browser? If you created the connection with an in-app browser, you’ll need to head to the URL in an external browser and connect at least one wallet via the WalletConnect option.
  • Used a web extension? If you used a browser extension wallet to connect, you’ll need to connect an additional mobile wallet via the WalletConnect option.

Register your wallet on the airdrop claim page to take the first step towards unlocking your stake in the WalletConnect Network and the future of onchain UX.
