Everything you need to know about the WalletConnect Token (WCT) Airdrop

The WCT airdrop registration for season 1 of the airdrop is open from September 24 to October 18 — learn about eligibility, timelines, and what to expect.

The WalletConnect Token (WCT) is a fundamental and critical part of the WalletConnect Network, fueling the onchain UX ecosystem. WCT powers important network functionality that enables the network’s community of users, apps, and wallets to contribute to a better onchain future through shared incentives, and allows holders of WCT to have a true stake in the future of onchain UX.

From the users of today to the builders of tomorrow, those who contribute toward the network play a critical role in building a better internet, one designed for interoperability, freedom, and ownership.

The WCT airdrop is designed to empower individuals — both users and contributors — who play an active role within the network, web3’s growth, and the future of onchain UX. It is an invitation to participate in the WalletConnect ecosystem, contribute to governance and play a role in establishing community-driven UX upgrades onchain.

The airdrop will be rolled out across various seasons, with registrations for season 1 opening on September 24, 2024. The registration period for season 1 of the WCT airdrop officially ends October 18, 2024, and registrants will be able to check their eligibility for season 1 in November, at which point more information will be shared about the criteria assessments and how and when to claim.

18.5% (185 million WCT) of the initial WCT token supply will be allocated to WCT airdrops in total, of which 5% (50 million WCT) can be claimed during season 1.

Notice: The WalletConnect Network is in the process of becoming a fully open, permissionless, and decentralized network by 2025 (read more). The WCT token will be launching in 2024, with transferability coming at a later date (read more).

How to participate in season 1 of the WCT airdrop

To register for season 1 of the WCT airdrop, you’ll need to:

  1. Head to https://airdrop.walletconnect.network/
  2. Create a profile by tapping the “Register Here” button, accepting the terms and conditions, and connecting at least one Ethereum wallet address. To allow your past WalletConnect Network usage to be correctly measured, please use the WalletConnect option to link your wallet.

Note: Some wallet connection methods, like the use of extension wallets, do not enable connection via the WalletConnect Network and connecting via these methods may impact the ability to correctly assess your past usage of the Network. For this reason, connecting with at least one mobile wallet across your frequented accounts is recommended.

  1. Build out your profile by adding additional wallet addresses and/or any GitHub accounts that you think may be relevant to the airdrop criteria to expand the assessment of your eligibility.
  2. That’s it! You can check back to see an update on your status in November. To receive a notification when this information is released, add your email address for notifications during the registration process.

Who can participate in season 1 of the WCT airdrop?

Notice: The Airdrop registration webpage will be inaccessible from certain jurisdictions for compliance purposes, including sanctions regulations set forth by applicable agencies from the United States and other governments which prohibit providing products or services accessible from domains to persons in specific countries and territories. Further, digital wallet addresses identified on Specifically Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons Lists maintained by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control may not participate.

To participate in the airdrop registration process, you’ll need to follow the steps outlined above. From there, the profile you submitted with your registration will be assessed against criteria used to determine your eligibility to earn and claim WCT via season 1 of the airdrop.

There are two categories of eligibility criteria:

1. Activity as a user

As a user, your past activity across the Network including connections, signatures, and on-chain activity will be assessed. Past activity both recently and overall with the WalletConnect Network factor into eligibility. Eligibility for users is assessed from wallet addresses added to the user’s profile.

2. Activity as a contributor

As a contributor, past contributions to the WalletConnect Network including projects spanning CAIPs, EIPs, Ethereum SDKs, non-EVM SDKs, and to open source projects that positively impact the onchain ecosystem factor into eligibility. Eligibility for contributors is assessed from Github accounts added to the user’s profile.

You may be eligible as both a user and contributor within the same profile.

How are the criteria measured?

The airdrop uses an internal scoring mechanism to determine if you are eligible to claim the airdrop and how many tokens you may receive. ****Your score is determined based on a combination of your past connections via the WalletConnect Network, signatures, on-chain activity, and software contributions.

The more criteria you meet, the higher your score. The amount of tokens you may be eligible to claim is based on your score. However, users must exceed certain scoring thresholds to become eligible. Not all users who register will exceed these thresholds.

The retrospective snapshot of criteria for season 1 of the airdrop considers a timeframe from as early as the network’s inception, up to September 12, 2024 only, and more information regarding specific criteria assessments will be shared ahead of the airdrop distribution after registration for season 1 is complete.

What’s next?

The clue is in the name — season 1 of the WCT airdrop is just the first of multiple airdrops designed to empower members of the WalletConnect ecosystem who actively contribute toward the network and wider onchain ecosystem.
